Why not test it on your DEV system?
You should be testing backup restores on a regular basis anyway. If you have to do a DR restore due to dataloss and you've not verified your backups, and they turn out to be useless, this could well have disasterous consequences for both your career and your company.

I'm a DBA.
I'm not paid to solve problems. I'm paid to prevent them.

why not just use the SQL agent they have? with netbackup you can do this and if you have the open file agent it will probably work. but life is so much easier if you just use the db agent they ship to run your backups

We've just recently started using CommVault and run some DR testing scenarios. What we have found is that given our environment (VMWare servers. etc.) the best option for DR is the full CommVault file system/ VM snapshotting restore. Otherwise you run into all kinds of issues with versioning, etc.

But yes, definitely test out your DR scenarios as each shop is different.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your comments , i had tested the native sqlidata agent backups to get restored , i could do restore successfully and check the integrity of the database.

to add up to this ... when the files are on line ( mdf and ldf ) and backing up through the comm vault file system, will these backups can be restored successfully.

thanks,
Shiv
