There is no good comparison I know of because they are really different products. You cannot buy SQL Server 2000 anymore and for new servers, I'm not sure it makes sense to stick with 2000. It's 1/2 through it's lifecycle and while there may be a new version next year, it will be similar to 2005 if MS continues with their trends.
There is some info here to help you try to figure out if you want to use 2005: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/features/default.mspx

Thanx Steve for your suggestions...

Also look at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinfo/overview/whats-new-in-sqlserver2005.mspx. This is a what new but that would be new compared to 2000.
You can install 2005 on the same machine with 2000. We have developers here that run both.

Viraj,
It was a good question, so I started to list some differences. Look for an article soon on this topic.

Any updates? Anyone have any sites I can look at? I am trying to sell the CEO and specifically I am trying to reduce the number of locks (or duration).
I did find this which discusses it but more from a compare to Oracle:
Features, strengths and weaknesses comparison between MS SQL 2005 (Yukon) and Oracle 10g databases

That's a good document. Seems pro Oracle, even more so when you consider that they make Oracle add-ons. There is no TCO study, no total average up time. It's just a feature comparison.
Still, given these limitations, it's a great resource. Thanks for sharing it.
