Hello,
Do you need to upgrade from SP3 to SP4? ie: have there been significant changes to warrant this, or is it similar to SP3 to SP3a (which MS recommended that you did not have to upgrade if you had already had SP3).
If so, any bugs, problems?
Many thanks. Jeff

1)if you use awe, you need to have a hotfix:

2) some other discussions on SP4

The #1 most important thing to know before you upgrade to SP4...
Does your vendor support it? If the database is created via a vendor application, upgrading to SP4 may 'break' the application.

I read somewhere that if you upgrade your servers to SP4 you have to upgrade the client tools for anyone using EM and QA. I quickly lost interest in it after that, but I could change my mind if this isn't true.

You indeed have to update the client tools of who connects to sql server sp4.

I lost interest after I saw the bit about not being able to back out SP4 (you need to uninstall and reinstall SQL), and the complexities of upgrading all the servers involved in replication.

Hi .... whoaaa ... I have to update each workstation's EM and QA tools???? re: developers pc's? Is this new for SP4? I don't remember doing that for SP3 upgrade? It just involved the server side. Are there any steps involved?
Many thanks. Jeff

I've installed SP4 on 2 servers, and left SP3a on 2 other servers. I haven't had to do anything at the client, nor have I had any other problems or issues. I'm currently replicating from an SP4 box to 2 SP3a boxes without incident.
SP3 and SP3a are basically the same. SP4 is new & I'm sure there's a list of everything it does at MSN somewhere. We installed it, not for any particular fix, but just to be current
There are AWE issues, but they don't apply to us. There's also another issue I read about & posted in the "Service Pack" forum about locking problems when running very large queries. I haven't run into this problem, but am holding off putting SP4 on our box with our large production DB. There are other problems listed in the SP forum too, but I haven't had any problems at all. (so far !)
