i need to move a SQL database from one ISP to another. What questions or requests do I ask the first ISP to get the information needed to upload to another. I have access to the html files on the server but not to the database itself. They have exported the data to an Access database which I have now. The original developer has dropped off the face of the earth. Any suugestions would be appreciated. Thanks Barney

Can you get a backup of the original database from the first ISP? That would be better than an export to Access because it would include all the database settings, users, etc.

Is there a specific request I should make or just ask for a backup? Would the size be about the same as the Access export? Thanks Barney

Just ask for a full database backup of the database on whatever media your new ISP wants. I assume the database hasn't been created on the new ISP's server yet, so they can just restore the database from the backup.

I have a backup copy now along with an exported Access file. The next problem is that the new ISP can or will not restore from a backup, or at least that is the response I am getting. Their website only allows for importing a csv file. My conversation with them confirms this. At least on the first level of discussion. Any more thoughts?
