Has anyone seen this error in sql log before.
Internal I/O request 0x68F42BB0: Op: Write, pBuffer: 0x13AD0200, Size: 512, Position: 0, UMS: Internal: 0x1, InternalHigh: 0x0, Offset: 0x0, OffsetHigh: 0x0, m_buf: 0x00000000, m_len: 1760829472, m_actualBytes: 0, m_errcode: 995, BackupFile: VNBU0-7020-6992
BackupVirtualDeviceFile::RequestDurableMedia: Flush failure on backup device 'VNBU0-7020-6992'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.).
Any idea what could have caused this? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If this message from a database or transaction log backup and you are backing up to disk on a different server, then on both servers, check the NIC card configuration for duplex and connection speed. These should NOT be set to auto-detect but instead should the maximum speed and full duplex.
The cause of the problem: The NICs and the routers are exchange information to determine the appropriate duplex and connection speed, but under high load, this exchange breaks down resulting in a phantom disk I/O error. One specific hardware combination is HP 1Gb NICs and CISCO routers.
