Hello,
I have a problem with my MSDE server. I have a machine with windows server 2003 with the firewall down. I am running MSDE on this machine. The problem is that localy i can get in the MSDE database thru SQL enterprise tools and osql command, but when I try to do this remotely I am not abble to do it. It throws an error of "Server does not exist or access denied". Meanwhile If i try to ping the machine I always get a response and I can get in thru explorer and browser.
The funny thing about all of this is that I have the same thing running on a Windows server 2000, and with this one I don't have any problem getting in. The best thing yet is that I have a windows XP professional with exactly the same thing and that isn't working either.
Does anyone know about this problem?

Check the Server Network Utility to see if you've got the TCP/IP or Named Pipes protocol enabled. By default MSDE installs with only Shared Memory protocol enabled which prevent any communication with netwroked machines.

Hello!
I would like to thank everybody, but it really was a problem of being a complete noob to this sorts of thing!
The problem was thar there was a machine with the same name as mine. The strange thing is that everytime I refered to the machine it was by IP and not by name! It shouldn't be going to the other machine, but.... hey i got the problem fixed that's the really important thing.
Thanx everybody!
