Local vs Named? Server

  We've set up a new server.   All other servers have a server name on their machines then we link to the others so they all have visibility to one another.  When setting up the new server the installer recommends we leave the name as local.  What are the pro's and con's of that?

  Also, why would they setup the General properties as OS: MS Win NT when it runs ona Win2003?

  "Local" simply means that it will point to the default server instance.  If you name it, it is meant to be pointing to a different server instance.

  Windows NT is the underlying technology for Windows 2000/2003.  This is the correct setting for the OS.
