Distribution Clean-Up takes 15 hours or MORE !

    I have 7 transaction replication jobs (run every 15 minutes), 1 snapshot replication job (runs once daily), and 5 other transaction replication jobs (run once every 2 weeks).

     

    The Distribution Clean-Up job is scheduled to run every morning at 5 am, and takes anywhere from  11-55 hours !!   What's the deal with this ????

     

    Details:  Transaction retention  48 - 270 hours  (so I don't risk losing transactions for my every 2 week job)

     

    SQL 2000 sp3, windows 2000 sp4

    How big is your distribution database and how much of that space in it using before and after the cleanup? It maybe just a case that it has to cleanup a lot of data an ensure that it has been delivered.
