We are using SQL 6.5 on Windows 2003 server (it works!), with an SQL2000 named instance beside it. The only problem we have is that the 6.5 installs an older version on MSDTC which makes DTC unavailable on the server. You also cannot use COM+. Is there any way to repair DTC to a version which is compatible with 2003 (I assume this should be the version which ships with SQL2000, but even that dtcsetup fails.)
Otherwise we will have to fallback to Windows 2000 server, but I've had a similar problem with 6.5 on 2000, but could fix it after manually removing and reinstalling dtc (this did not work on 2003).
Thanks!

sorted the problem out by using "add/remove windows components", to remove "enable network dtc access" from the "application server" option. restarted the server, and enabled the setting again. dtc service was reinstated and running.

I might state the obvious, but you know this one?
