I have a test box that has SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000 on it. I recieved my first security analysis report of the box, and I have a lot of patching to do (its a new box). My DBA roles are slowly evolving, and I want to make sure I am doing this stuff right on my box before they ask me to do it on production boxes. Here is my question:
When I went to download SQL Server 2000 SP3a, there were three different executables, database components, analysis services, and MSDE. I installed all three of them, but when I did, all three installs looked very similar. Could have I just installed one of them and been done with it, or was I correct in installing all three?
Also, form MSXML, Do I need to have MSXML 2.6 if I also have MSXML 3.0?
Thank you very much in advance for your help and explainations,
Michael

Concerning the three different executables.
You need to install the database components at a minimum.
Do you run Analysis Services? If not, then you don't need that.
Do you have MSDE on any of your computer? If so, then you need to install that component.
