Merging two databases

  • Hi folks!

We have a database on a central SQL2K which is merge replicated with 5 remote SQL2K.

The merge process went smoothly, merging the changes applied on the different servers, for quite a time. The database grew up to 5 GB of data.

We had to stop for network problems the replication between central and remote, removing also the publication.

Now we have that the remote servers have acquired a lot of informations in this time, informations different from each other.

Before rebuilding the new publication, we would like to synchronize the different databases in order to obtain a single database, resulting from the merge of all the databases (that is all the inserts, the deletes and the updates done at eacg remote database). This new complete database should be the new "global" database to be used as the central database from which start the replication.

Maybe it is a dumb question, but how can I merge two databases?

I tried with RedGate and SSW, but the changes are too many, and however their target is to make a database identical to the other, and not a real merge of the two...

    Any help REALLY appreciated!

    Hear you soon!

  • Greetings,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

We are working on a disaster recover solution that requires the failover of a production SQL to a Secondary SQL server.

I was planning to use a Merge replication since it allows for changes at the remote server to be synced back to the local serer also.

My concern is if we where to lose the local server, could we rebuild and easily re-establish the Merge replication with the remote system.

    Any help would be appreciated
