Log explorer and record-o-matic

  • Has anyone other than Lumigent figured out what the proprietary format is for log files?

Lumigent for multiple servers seems god-awful expensive for what is essentially just reading a log file...

One reason I ask is that I want to be able to record or recover a "session" in SQL Server. Basically I want to use it for documentation. A problem occurs, flip on the record-o-matic, fix the problem, turn off the record-o-matic, save the session to a file and include it with the issue log.

If I wanted to get really fancy I'd create a QA template for it.

  • Lockwood has a product in beta. Lumignent is expensive, right up until you need it. Then it's worth every penny. Note that it doesn't just read, but allows you to actually undo transactions based on log entries.

For what you're doing, why not just use Profiler?
