In my failed login traces on SQL Server 2000, I have
NT Authority\Anonymous Login as an entry. Does anyone know how i can narrow down the violating process / individual?

You may use the SQL Server Profiler, or check the EventViewer or other tools to trace.

Check scheduled DTS packages. If they involve outside data sources and you're using SQL server logins, you might see that type of entry.
