DTS error - Selected collating sequence not supported by Operating System

  • I am processing a number of spreadsheets using a DTS package.  The spreadsheets are from different geographical sites of a third party but should all be based on the same original spreadsheet.  For the spreadsheets from the Japanese site I get the error "Selected collating sequence not supported by Operating System" on the production server.  The development server is fine.  Same version of MS Sql-server installed.  When I open the spreadsheet (on my PC) I can't see anything unusual and the contents of the relevant columns are in Latin characters.  I saw another thread from 2002 talking about this error - the solution there was to re-run the package and it works the second time.  I've tried this with no luck.

  • I'm in search of a good solution to this issue as well. I believe it has something to do with the spreadsheet I'm trying to read in was created in a languange that the OS does not have installed. If I save the original spreadsheet to a new name (in my native language) the file loads without error.

I noticed that my db server doing the DTS does not have any other language packs installed.

I'm hoping that loading the languages will resolve the issue.

I'm interested if anyone else has come accross this as more and more data is in Unicode with many other language characters and characteristics.
