Sql 6.5 client connectivity problem

  • Setting: Win2K Pro box, old Sql 6.5 server (running IPX/SPX). I installed the complete

set of client tools on the client machine, made sure the server and client are both using IPX/SPX, but the client still can't connect to the server. ("Server can not be found"...) The same workstation can't connect to our other Sql 6.5 (IPX\SPX) server either.

What tools are available for tracking down this connection problem?

  • Can this machine see all IPX/SPX traffic or not? Could be the local SAP broadcasts do not have the servers listed. Make sure you can see other IPX/SPX type servers beyond your local segment that are not Windows if possible. Also, is there a specific reason for using IPX/SPX as opposed to TCP/IP, IPX/SPX is notorious for being chatty. I have a SAP tool taht is freeware I can pass along if you need, I just have to find it, let me know.
