Planning for Change

  • I've got just over 6 years before I reach retirement age.

I've friends and relatives who are a similar age but have already retired. My father retired in his late 50s and he's in his late 80s. No-one I have spoken to wishes they had retired later. Quite a few have said that they don't know how they found the time to work as they are so busy in retirement.

Someone on this site wrote about losing a job and that as far as the business is concerned its like pulling a stick out of a bottle of water.

I've also heard that people don't leave a job, they leave their manager.

Unless you make people's lives better, they won't remember you, or at least remember you fondly.

Steve, your work has made many people's lives better. Whatever you go on to do and whenever you do so, you will be remembered

  • Thanks, David, and best of luck. I am ready to retire, if I had something else I wanted to do more, but I still enjoy what I do. Certainly I've slowed a bit and do less speaking at conferences, but I still enjoy the job.

My wife's plans might impact mine, so I lightly look at the 5-7 year range, but it could easily be 10 more years.
