It should be simpler to correct security mistakes, and it should be way easier to get fixes prioritised before a hostile actor finds the vulnerability. Deal with the threat while it is a risk rather than an issue.
We should all be familiar with the principle of defence in depth. I have concerns that the principle encourages complacency in the hard of understanding.
" I don't have to worry about security because the hacker would have to get through the layers above to attack my system".
Those layers are an accidental misconfiguration away from being compromised. They forget that their system has legitimate access to other systems and, if compromised, that access will be used for nefarious purposes.

When it comes to identifying vulnerabilities, one of the first things I would look for are login credentials embedded in source code and ETL packages. Once you push a change into Git, you (the developer) really don't know who all has access to that today or at some point in the future.
Also, going forward, I expect those of us who specialize in security engineering and performance engineering will have better job security than baseline software engineers and DBAs. Our job will be to make sure that IT organizations using agentic AI to fast track applications and databases are doing things in a secure and optimized way.
