  • Fun fact: Auto close can cause your monitoring software to throw several of false alerts when the database is closed after the app closed its connection.

    Took me a while several years ago to find the reason after I got a database with AutoClose enabled from our vendor (MoveIt Automation - it uses a PostgreSQL database per default but supports MSSQL too)

    God is real, unless declared integer.

  • Every setting has a reason for its existence, even if its just for an edge case.

    I wish that, for any tech, there was an explicit set of edge case documents that summarised the edge case, and explicitly why it should be considered an edge case.

    I'm finding that CTEs are the Birmingham Screwdriver (lump hammer) of choice these days. At 1st glance CTEs appear to improve readability, but beyond a certain point they present a debugging nightmare.
