  • Great read Steve

I must have been one of your first members

And you would have used your system when I was about 5 years into being a DBA   Dev

    Keep up the good work

  • There was a time about 25 y ago - We've developed email newsletter WYSIWYG platform for financial news. We've had to email it to about 100k emails. We tried to do it from our office first, but we were on a 256kbit leased line which was slow so we used to send emails with about 500-1000 emails in bcc, so 500-1000 times lower traffic. This work however had to be done by the ISP's SMTP server - to send each separate email. Turned out that they did not have set limits on their SMTP and it took their entire bandwidth and effectively stopped the Internet for all their clients...

They were not happy, we've had to promise multiple times to not do it again 🙂 We've switched to use a big hosting provider's SMTP but soon were slapped for spamming...

I went through some of those things at a previous startup, as we tried to test our scale to email clients. Learned more here, as the site grew and we had to find a way to send 1mm emails a day
