In the United States, today is Thanksgiving. The intent behind the holiday is to remember all that we have to be thankful. I have a lengthy list from friends and family, health, and a whole bunch of other things. Health hits me particularly hard because I have a dear friend who was once one of the most fit and healthy individuals I know. Unfortunately, his body unexpectedly decided to rebel on him without warning and it’s been a fight ever since. It has reminded me to be thankful of the things I used to take for granted.
Even if you’re not in the United States, a useful self-care exercise is to write down a short list those things of which you can be grateful. Put that list away somewhere where you can pull it back out when you feel down or like the world is against you. It’s amazing how something like that can cheer us up and get us feeling better.
