migrate 2005 report server to 2008R2

  • I am trying to migrate a sql server reporting server to another new hardware.

    I follow instruction in this;

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724.aspx

    After I install reporting service and its local database engine on the new server, I did the following steps.

    1. backup the encryption key on old server.

    2. stop the reporting service on the new server

    3. restore the reportserver and reportservetempdb from the Old server database to the new server.

    4. then I restore the encryption key that is a copy from old server.

    But now I browse to the report manager, I first get the message:

    the feature scale-out deployment is not supported

    I know standard edition does not support this, both of the old server and new server has standard edtion installed.

    So I go back to Reporting service configuration tool, on hte last tab, Scale_out Deployment, I see there are two servers names there, one is the new server, the other is the old server name, I don't know how they are added there, so I remove both from the screen.

    Now I go back to report manager, I got another new errror:

    The report server installation is not initialized. (rsReportServerNotActivated

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks,

  • you need to have atleast one server in the scale out deployment box, so put the name of the new server back in that box.

    as you did a backup and restore of the RS databases it had the old configuration so thats why you saw both servers
