The time stamp counter of CPU on scheduler is not synchronized with other CPUs

  • Hi All

I get the following error in my Error Logs.

The time stamp counter of CPU on scheduler id 5 is not synchronized with other CPUs.

I did apply on what I read in the the article on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931279 but did not work.

It used to come up every second now it comes up every 20 minutes (after I ran the script).

Can someone please advise on how to resolve this issue?

    Thanks in advance

  • Just a guess - the KB article refers to a Windows configuration setting that at best has an indirect on the hardware configuration.

You may have to disable speed-step in the BIOS to stop Intel machines automatically slowing down under-utilised CPUS. There is probably a similar setting for AMD CPUs.

If you do this, you need to consider cooling implications - the server cooling capacity may be based on an assumptions that not all CPUS will be at 100% of speed rating 100% of the time. Turning off speed-step will make your server run at its hottest 24x7.
