I'm trying my hand on my first AWS EC2 VM running SQL Server. What I've observed is that when I try to connect to SQL using SSMS from my laptop, I get the error, "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Integrated authentication." However, I've also noticed that if I try to connect to SQL Server from my laptop while I have an active RDP connection to the AWS VM, my laptops connection succeeds. It will again fail with the same error message above if I disconnect my RDP connection.
My infrastructure team has setup AT&T netbond which gives us direct mpls connectivity to AWS datacenters and this VM is in our primary domain, so this shouldn't be a cross domain issue. Connecting by IP address and FQDN have not fixed the issue.
Anyone else experienced this or know what I should be checking out?

Update: We found that setting specific SPNs to our server allowed us to connect to it from our office location.
