SSRS session time out vs execution time out

  • I have a question regarding time out.

If I use management studio log into reporting service- advanced- there is a session timeout setting default to 600 seconds.

But on the execution tab, there is a default setting: limit report execution to the following of the seconds 1800.
why the second setting is smaller than the first setting.

If a report for example runs 1000 seconds, the session time out, the reports will fail,
what point is to set the second one bigger than first one?

    Thanks

  • Execution timeout help for long running queries/reports that run on a schedule for snapshot, caching or for subscriptions. Those can all be run outside of business hours or busy report hours. That's often how you would want to run large reports.
Session timeout applies to user sessions, running reports interactively.
