AlwaysON - Listener on different Subnet than both nodes?

  • I have a need to alter the IP/subnet of the Listener to be on a routable subnet within the same vlan as the existing listener/nodes.  In theory, I'd like to either add a 2nd listener with the new IP/subnet or change the existing to the new ip/subnet.

How do I make the new 'network' visible to the failover cluster when it's not a NIC connection?  Once it's in the 'network' list, can I add a 2nd listener with the alternate IP?

Also to note...I will be adding a 3rd node on a NEW network (out of region) which I'll need to have the listener update DNS to the out of region network space if a manual failover to OOR occurs.  So maybe just keeping one "local" listener on the separate subnet is the way to go if I need to have it failover to OOR and alter the DNS entry...

    help?

    Thanks.

The network has to be available via a NIC connected to the network and also as a cluster network.
For the listener network name you provide both subnet IPs as an or condition. This is fully detailed at this link and this link
