Just wondering if anyone has ever created a Linked Server to a SAS data source before. Having looked around a few places, it seems the standard solution is to use SSIS to import the required data using the necessary SAS drivers and mainly taking straight file dumps of the data.
I'm sure it is possible to connect to the same data sources using the SAS ODBC drivers in a linked server. So far, in the Linked Server dialog box I've the following settings:
Provider: SAS Local Data Provider 9.3
Product Name: sas.LocalProvider (as listed in Providers on Server Objects)
Data Source: \\servername\foldername\filename.sas7bdat
I don't know what provider name to put in or location. Also, I'm not sure if there are other particular settings e.g. security context to enter as well.
