Greetings all. We just got new laptops with Windows 7 professional, so we installed SQL Server 2012 for 32 bit machines. Although we confifured SQL Server to start automatically at windows start up, it is not happening. My company uses Viewfinity, and we had some issues with XP and SQL Server 2008, but never with the service not starting. My question is, shouldn't there be a registry entry that tells the service to run automatically? And if so, how can I see it? I looked through the registry, and did not immediately see anything, but I don't know which key to start with. Thank you.

I think I've got it. SQl Server is configured to start under NT Service. So if I change it to start under the local account, is that my network account?

Perry, that is precisely what I did. Local account fixed it. I uninstalled SQL Server, then tried to set it to local account upon re-install, as you could do with SQL Server 2008 Express, but the install package would not let me change it. Maybe I missed something, but changing it after the fact works just as well. I am also finding that no services appear when I open the configuration manager, and what I found on google is that I must have limited permissions to WMI. Anyhow, I'm not too pleased with all the seemingly meanial tasks in XP now requiring administrator priveledges in Windows 7.
