Per my understanding SQL Server Report Manager is embedded in the Report Server service and cannot be installed by itself. If I want to run Report Manager and Reporting Server on two different physical servers, how may SQL Server licenses that I need to procure (i.e. is it 1 or 2)?
Thanks!

sounds like you only need one.
you need a license to run SQL Server Reporting Services.
the mangement of the reports (or the creating / authoring of them) can occur anywhere BIDS is installed.
of course, where the Report Server and Report Server TempDB live need a SQL Server Database license too. but they can be on the same server with just 1 license.

you will need two sets of licences, as you need to licence the machines which run the services and as you will have two boxes with a SSRS service thats 2.
if your in doubt with any licensing I would always recommend to contact your reseller who can get the information direct from Microsoft. When it comes to something as strict as licences always the best bet.

Thanks for your suggestion. Understanding Microsoft licensing is always a top task for me.
