SQL server

  • I'm trying to figure out some license issues.

I know if only client tool like sql management studio is installed, it will not require license.

how can I know if it is only client tool like management studio installed vs full version?

is it to see if they have local database server?

Do they have sql services run?

This may not be what you were looking to have answered but just so it does not go completely unsaid...while you may not need to account for the SSMS software itself you'll still need to account for the use of that software to connect to a server with a server-license. If the user is connecting to a server licensed "by Proc" then no issue. If the server is licensed "by User" or "by Device" then you'll need a CAL to cover server access.

Does your company deal with a VAR for licensing? Like Dell or CDW? I recommend you get in contact with a licensing specialist from them to get clarification.
