Any issue restoring to different dot release?

  • Just wondering if there are any issues backing up a DB from version 10.50.1746 and restoring to a previous version 10.50.1600? I know this is a 2005 thread but the question should be the same regardless. I don't think there is an issue because I think the service pack's and hotfix's only update system DB's, binaries and OS files...but I just wanted to be sure.

    Thanks!

  • you will be able to restore a user database between these versions. As long as both are SQL2008R2 (which there are as 10.50.xxxx).

edited to clarify my meaning in second sentence

That should be fine. That's restoring from 2008 R2 with a CU to 2008 R2 RTM (iirc). Where there is problem is restoring 2008 R2 to 2008. (10.50.xxxx -> 10.0.xxxx)
