I have successfully installed and ran SQL 2008 Server Express previously. I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Advanced Express.
I am running Vista Ultimate SP 2, Windows Installer 4.5
My first problem is that I can't uninstall the current version of SQL Server 2008 Express (not advanced). From the Control Panel Programs and Features window, I select SQL Server 2008 and click Uninstall/Change. After clicking on the confirm window, a Command window briefly flashes and then nothing. I was able to uninstall SQL Server 2008 from the command line.
After uninstalling SQL, I am unable to install SQL Server 2008 Advanced Express. The following happens:
- I download and run SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe (as administrator)
- I see the install package being extracted
- I click "continue" on the confirmation message
- A command window briefly flashes on the screen and then nothing - no error message.
I can't find anything in the installation log or the event viewer.
Any help is appreciated.
