Restricting folder access to a particular folder causes home page to be blank

  • I have a number of folders listed in the home page of Report Manager. I want to add a group account to only allow access to one of the folders. I want to configure it so that when the user accesses the home page, only the folder that the user has permission to access, is visible.

What I've done to try to achieve this is, I went into the folder that I want give access to and I setup the security via the properties tab. In the home page, I have the not setup the security at all. I have assumed that when security is set up in the particular folder, only that folder will be visible in the home page. However when I tested it, there no folders at all in the home page.

    Can someone please advice.

    Thanks,

    Danaki

  • One thing you can count on is that any folder that needs to be accessed by someone will require that the individual have access to the entire path that leads to that folder with at least sufficient read access to allow folder navigation to the lowest level they should have access to. Since that's a necessity, what you're looking to accomplish isn't going to happen. They will still be able to see those other folders, but should not have access to them. Reporting Services 2005 doesn't work quite the same way Windows Explorer does. It's just not set up to do that. I don't know if that behavior carries over to SSRS 2008 or not.
