Troubles...

  • I'm a complete noob to webservers and mysql in general... I have IIS running fine, php works etc. however I can't seem to get MySQL to work, mainly for phpbb. I've been following some steps and apparently I'm supposed to add it to the DSN (ODBC). When trying to log on to the server I always get an "Error 2" and apparently a connection cannot be made, however my "SQL Server" service is running. This is my latest error log:

MySQL? That's a Microsoft SQL Server log you posted, not MySQL. Which are you trying to run?

Does phpbb work with SQL Server?

How are you trying to connect? If via a DSN, what's the connection string?

  • The SQL Server error log doesn't necessarily contain something to help you here. It might, but not necessarily.

Open Control Panel, data sources, create a new data source and see if you can connect to your SQL Server.

There are PHP drivers for SQL Server, but I'm not sure they come with phpbb. I've searched around, and see lots of configs for MySQL, but not SQL Server.

  • While there is a SQL Server native client for php now, I don't know if phpBB supports it. I don't believe that it does, as I think it still only supports connectivity through ODBC. Your first step would be to create the DSN and test it through Data Sources (ODBC). You'll need to do that before trying to connect with phpBB.
