Cannot access Reporting Services on remote SQL Mgmt Studio client

  • Hello,

I've got an issue while trying to remotely log onto Reporting Services through SQL Management Studio. We're running SQL Server 2005 SP2 Enterprise, the user can log on without problems on the server with his credentials, but when he tries to authenticate from his workstation (with the same credentials - we're using windows authentication) he gets and error 401 - Unauthorized.

Has anyone experienced this ? I can't seem to figure out why the credentials are not recognized.

Thanks in advance & best regards,

    Max

  • First of all, you have to check if the Internet Information Services (IIS) is turned on or not? Then check your permission there by right clicking the Default Website and go from there.

  • I am experiencing the same issue. How could IIS NOT be on and you have Reporting Services installed? That makes no sense. At any rate, I have the exact same issue as the original person here. I can access the site http://servername/reports/ just fine from the server, but when attempting from a client, I get bubkis. I have IWA turned on; so after it asks me for a password three times, I get the blow up screen telling me that I am not authorized, but this is the SAME login that I am using on the server itself. If I turn OFF IWA and leave it at anonymous, I can get to the page, but i don't have any tabs. If I turn on clear autentication, I get to the page after logging in, but this only allows me to get to certain things..other things prompts the password authentication again...some of which fails....
