Set Default Encoding when saving Query Results (Text)

  • Ok, we'll start with the basics. I know that I can save a file in ANSI Encoding in SQL Server Management Studio if I select the Save with Encoding option. However, it appears that I am smarter than most of the Clients that I deal with.

I had a user call complaining because they saved some Query results as a Text file and now when they try to read it everything is garbage. I said that is because if it is saved by default it will be in Unicode you have to select "Save with Encoding" from the dropdown arrow on the save button. After much complaining and gnashing of teeth I decided that if I could set the default for this user that would be good.

I did some searching and have seen posts similar to what I am looking for, but nothing that hits the mark. So, if anyone knows were this elusive setting lives, can you clue me in? Keep in mind, the user does not want some kind of DTS script or prepackaged program that is written to do this. :w00t:
