Access is Denied VISTA MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml

  • I have SQL 2005 Developer Named Instance installed on Windows Vista HOME... I am logged on as an ADMINISTRATOR.

I am aware that in order to access MSDB w/in SSIS I must 1st update the MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml file and replace the default instance "." w/ my named instance.

However, once I change the file and attempt to save, I am receiving an ACCESS IS DENIED in Vista.

Vista uses "junctions" -- sort of like shortcuts to actual Directory/File names..

Does anyone know exactly how I can update this file? How can I locate the "real" location of this file?

  • it should live in the following location

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn

it should look like the file attached. Once you have changed this file you will need to restart the “SQL Server Integration Services” service.

Don't forget to set up the COM security as well beforehand if you haven't already

  • Yes.. I see the file in this directory:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Binn

But w/ Vista and the goofy nature of Aministrator on various directories, I cannot update this file...

(if you google "VISTA Access is Denied" -- you'll find many hits on this -- none of which contain a solution)

    Still looking for an answer.
