problems seeing SQL server 2008 running on SBS 2008 standard

  • I'm sure this is a simple problem but I haven't been able to find information anywhere. I have installed SBS 2008 standard and later installed SQL server in the same box. the DB is accesible fine from within the box but I am unable to find it outside from clients that are included in the domain.

    Please HELP!!

  • What errors are you getting when trying to log on to the server?

Have you enabled remote connections through surface area configuration?

Does some firewall is blocking the connection/port?

  • thanks for your help!

I have created exceptions in the firewall and the surface area config is also open.

I have not been able to telnet the ip of the clients with port 1433 either.

the errors i get when I try to create ODBC connection on client is

    SQLState 08001

    SQL Server Error: 17

    Server doesn't exist

  • Can you cross check the port on which the SQL Server is listening?

And also try connecting the server by both IP & Name.
