SSMS Stops the application services..Any thoughts??

  • In Administrative Tools -->Services, I could see SQL server's services running and also my application's services running, but once I open SQL Management Studio, it stops my application's services (both server and client services). What could be the possible cause for this.

  • Management Studio doesn't automatically do anything to services. If you stopped the SQL service, it's possible the application depends on it and would stop, but running SSMS wouldn't do this.

  • No, SQL services are still running, just that my application's services are stopped after opening the SSMS

  • I agree with Steve. There is no reasonable way that SSMS could be the cause of this (I can think of one unreasonable way, but it is extremely unlikely).

I would have to guess that either 1) its a timing coincidence, or 2) something in your Client/App services is shutting itself down when it sees SSMS startup.

Of course that seems crazy too. :w00t:
