DB Maintenance Plans - error 0x80004005 - Communication link failure

  • I'm consistently getting this error across multiple 2005 servers when I attempt to save any newly created db maintenance plan (eg, integrity check, shrink dbs, etc.).

Frustration level has reached point of creating T-SQL jobs instead. Any insight into the error or its cause? (ie, have I set up the servers incorrectly?)

Both Maint Plans and CDW use IS under the covers for execution the problem you are hitting is because you do not have a certificate installed allowing SSIS packages to be saved IIRC.

This is addressed in the Next CTP whoich will be available shortly, I also believe there is a workaround in the readme but don't have access to it right now so can't check.

If anyone knows about checking/updating/installing these certificates, I'd appreciate whatever knowledge you can share.

  • Are you using CTP version of SQL server?

  • I thought the reference to the SSIS Certificates might be relevant to my problem. Now, I understand that 'CTP' stands for 'Community Technology Preview'. No, we do not use that. We are on 2K5 Enterprise. Which, of course, still leaves me searching for an answer to the 80004005 error. Hope that answers your question.
