Combo Item / Basket Analysis Data Mining

  • I'm looking for ideas on how to use SSAS and the Data Mining tools for a certain type of basket analysis. It appears to me that market basket analysis (MBA) is intended to help identify items purchased on the same transaction, but we are trying to take this down a level to see which items were purchased most frequently with a specific combo item.

We offer a couple different combo items at our restaurants -- a Sandwich / Soup combo, for example -- where the customer gets to choose which sandwich and which soup they want together.

We have already built a cube that includes all the aggregation of items sold per store, per restaurant, per day, etc., but since the data is aggregated, we lose the relationships. I'm assuming then that we need to build another fact table for this that does not aggregate but retains the transaction level detail.

Anyone done something like this successfully before?

    thanks!

    Ryan
