Sp_dbmail: Cannot load msxmlsql.dll

  • I'm running a clustered 64 bit instance of SQL 2005.

When I run an sp_dbmail and look at sysmail_log I see:

Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlIMail.Server.Common.BaseException Message: The read on the database failed. Reason: Failed to load Msxmlsql.dll. Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal TargetSite: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlIMail.Server.Objects.QueueItem GetQueueItemFromCommand(System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand) HelpLink: NULL Source: DatabaseMailEngine StackTrace Information sp_xml_preparedocument Server:XXXXXXXX\XXX State: 1 Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider ErrorCode: -2146232060 Message: Failed to load Msxmlsql.dll. Data: System.Collections.ListDictionaryInternal TargetSite: Void OnError(System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException, Boolean) HelpLink: NULL StackTrace Information

On all my other (albeit non-clustered) servers I've had no issue.

A quick google leads me here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941105

    ...

Seriously?? Because my servers have been having great up time this doesn't work? Yes I can load the dll into memory as a work around but still...

Can someone please tell me that this isn't the case and the main problem is that I've forgotten to tick something or install something properly.
