Hi All,
I am trying to install the personal edition of sql server 2000 and get this error message:
"A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup."
I found a MS white paper on this topic and followed the instructions, which involved removing registry keys, but I still get the same error message.
I have not previously installed SQL server on my machine.
I would very much appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!
Rebecca

Did you reboot after you removed the registry keys, and if so which registry keys did you remove?
And make sure you delete all the items in the temp folder to be sure nothing there is triggering this.

Thanks so much for your reply. I had been re-booting but after you asked the question I tried it without re-booting and it worked! For some reason, the problem key that I removed kept returning when I rebooted.
The key that I removed was the PendingFileRenameOperations key from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
and the same key from ControlSet01
Thanks again for your help and advice,
Rebecca
