I can't seem to start SQL Server Agent. I am running Microsft SQL Server 2000 and I have administrator rights. I right clicked on the SQL Server Agent and then click on Properties. Once the popup window comes up, I clicked on the Advanced tab and check off both auto start options. When I clicked on the apply button, I received this message:
Microsoft SQL-DMO(ODBC SQLState:4200)
Error 22002: RegCreateKeyEx() returned error 5, 'Access is denied.'
I have attempted to switch the SQL Server Agent startup account from this account to system account but I still receive the same error.

Looks like a permissions error. Someone must have messed with the permissions on the server, either Filesystem or registry. Can you start it under an adminsitrator account?
