SQL 2005 on a Windows 2003 Cluster - SMTP service

  • All,

Pleased to meet you all. This is my first post here, so hopefully I've chosen the correct location.

I have started a new job at a software company running Windows 2003 servers, with IIS & SQL running in clusters. To fulfill a dev need, I need SQL to send mail notifications. Therefore, I have two questions:

    1) My first step is to add the SMTP service to the SQL server, correct?

    2) Is there any problem with just going into Add/Remove Windows Components to add SMTP on the CLUSTER?

2b)Asked another way: Do I have to suspend the secondary node, add SMTP there, reactivate it, fail over, suspend the new secondary node, and add SMTP there?

  • No one has any clue about this one?

  • Wow - I guess either I've asked too difficult a question, or these forums aren't very active.
