From ‚A’ to ‚Branches’ two transaction replications.
Between ‚A’ and ‚ Branches’ some transaction and merge replications.
Now we are planning to upgrade only Server ‚A’ with SP4. The write processe only occure on Server ‚A’. Our vendors (for Server ‚A’) reports no problems with the software.
But they do not know what happens to the replication, system or other databases by the ‚Branches’.
We have no experiences with such a ‚mixed mode’. Do you have?
Questions:
1. Generally: What must we do first? What must we consider? Problems to solve?
2. Must we first delete the old replications? Which one (‚A’ and ‚B’)?
3. May something happens to the other databases / replications / system?
4. May there be problems with shared resources by the ‚branches’ (master or distribution)?
Thanks.

In the readme file (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/B/D/1BDF5B78-584E-4DE0-B36F-C44E06B0D2A3/ReadmeSql2k32sp4.htm) of SQL 2000SP4, there is a section (3.5 and 3.6) that describes how to install SP4 on replicated database. Check 5.2 also, SP4 has some enhancement for replication.
The readme has some errors whcih are corrected in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=884525. Check 3.5 in the page.
However, the best answer is to set up a similar environemnt to test the upgrade.
