Well I have to admit, I haven't actually read it (or any others, for that matter) -- Some of the SQL Server MVPs said it was good in a thread a while ago, so I figured it probably was...
Personally, I would read a book on database fundamentals, e.g. Date's _Introduction to Database Systems_, after which a book on data modeling should be unnecessary. At least, I think so -- I'm not sure what topics those books actually cover

Check this site for a list of data modeling books. In particular, look at books by Date, Darwen, and Codd.

Well, Date's book might turn out to be a little too academic for someone starting with this topic. So, it might prove contraproductive.
