Any Developers Want to Tackle a Community Project?

  • I have a couple of things that I'd like to work on in the web/database world, but I'm lacking time, and some skills. I was wondering if there are some development oriented people that might want to tackle a side project, get some ownership, credit, maybe a resume bullet.

The first thing is that I'd like to setup a community speaker bureau. I'd like a place where speakers can register a profile, list multiple presentations they have, upload decks (multiple versions), upload code samples, and list out sessions they've given. People would be able to vote on their sessions and give online feedback. People would also be able to search by location, date, and find out where people live (for user groups) or where they've been.

Ultimately I'd like some API that would allow conferences, SQL Saturday's, code camps, etc. to take submissions from the site.

  • Can it be done by telecommute?

What kind of shares were you thinking about?

What's the deadline set for the project?

  • Essentially I'm looking for an open source type project. Something that anyone could use, but I'd like to set it up and host it as a community site for technology speakers.

No pay, it's a resume bullet. I don't have much beyond this, but I am working on fleshing out what the project should look like.

  • So exactly like ssc started :w00t:.

  • Somewhat. We weren't open source. I'm looking for a few people that want to give back to the community, and can build a better framework than I can.

I'll work on specs and post some things out here.

  • Steve, I'm fascinated by this idea; unfortunately, I'm also pressed for time, and am hesitant to raise my hand.

However, I'd be curious to see the specs.
