error 401 after installing service pack 3

  • I installed service pack 3 and now when we try to access our report manager site, we get an error that says "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized."

Does anyone know why authorization would change with the SP3 install?

Any suggestions on how to fix it?

  • This is probably a permission issue at IIS level....have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318380

  • I tried the registry change as shown at

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861

under the title "You receive error 401.1 when you browse a Web site that uses Integrated Authentication and is hosted on IIS 5.1 or IIS 6".

I can now access our report server and no longer receive the authorization error message.

I'm posting this in case anyone else has this problem. I'm still not sure why this problem just started with Service Pack 3. We've been using SQL Server 2005 for a long time.

So...by making registry change u have disabled the loopback checks....which will enable the reflection attacks as stated in the article.......try out other stuf...
