Hi,
At 2:00pm every day we run transaction log backups for about 10 databases. These backups on average take about 10 seconds to complete. We have a dedicated server for SQL Server, but the data, log and backup files are stored on a SAN. Our Lotus Notes server shares part of this section of the SAN. Just after 2:00pm every day, our Notes server crashes. After some investigation it appears that there is a high level of disk i/o activity between 2:00pm and 2:05pm. Could our backups be causing this problem, given that they only take 10 seconds to complete? Or could it be a disk fragmentation problem?
Also, I have been told that although the backups complete successfully after 10 seconds, SQL Server is still writing to the log files for, in this case, a further 4 mintues. Is this correct?

With the backup duration provided by you, i don't think it should be the cause of the issue. have you thought about moving the tran log dump about 30 minutes earlier or later and see the results?
