How to apply Security Updates for sql server service pack failover clustering without downtime

    Hi guys,

    We have the Active/Passive cluster set up for production database server using sql server 2005. Every time we install a security updates for sql server service pack failover clustering or service pack, we will install on the active node which will bring down database service during the install and then the downtime will occur. Now we try to minimize the downtime and see if there's anyway we could install those patches without downtime? Any suggestions? Thanks!

    For the SP to properly apply, you will have to have downtime in an A/P cluster.

    If you redesigned your HA solution, you could minimize downtime by utilizing mirroring.
